Unsaturated seepage analysis for an ordinary solid waste sanitary landfill in Costa Rica

Sanitary Landfills in tropical areas are subjected to specific conditions such as high temperatures, intense precipitation, and highly organic solid waste with biodegradation rates. Unsaturated seepage inside the cells of an Ordinary Solid Waste (OSW) Landfill Costa Rica, Central America was studied. It is essential better understand behavior for this type disposal infrastructure due its physical hydraulic properties variation degradation deposited materials, which complex exhibit uncertainty. imperative that leachate movement landfill accurately estimated design more efficient systems optimize sanitary operation. Field exploration performed extract samples from field representing different OSW ages. Then, a series laboratory testing obtain physical, properties, cover soil gravity solids, grain size distribution, Soil-water characteristic curve, K-curve, Atterberg limits. Additionally, climatic affecting degree saturation were assessed by performing water balance. This information utilized estimate flow rates scenarios using HELP model, empirical two models Slide TM software Rocscience later on compare them actual data available. The model predicted rate model.
